Ten years following its launch, Curology is breaking into hair care with its Hair FormulaRx personalized prescription hair growth treatment to address male/female pattern hair loss, AKA androgenetic alopecia.

For the 12 months ending in May 2023, Spate reported that hair transplant monthly searches had increased by more than 17,000 queries. Spate also noted that leading product formats included hair loss pills (up 23.6% year-over-year) and sprays (up 13.7% year-over-year).

Ingredients associated with pills included finasteride, minoxidil, saw palmetto, sitosterol, biotin, garlic and pumpkin seed oil, while rosemary and minoxidil lead the spray searches.

Designed "to regrow hair in as little as three months" (or as long as 12 months), the Curology formulations will contain three active ingredients, which may include loss prevention materials finasteride and spironolactone, as well as hair growth booster minoxidil.

Hair FormulaRx formulations comprising minoxiil will reportedly feature higher strengths than what's available over-the-counter.

Hair FormulaRx features a telehealth, personalization and multi-ingredient compounding system that is similar to the brand's skin care platform.

Personalized formulas are prescribed by a licensed dermatology provider (PAs, NPs, MDs, DOs), per the brand, who work under the guidance of board-certified dermatologists.

New patients complete a questionnaire, upload photos of their scalp/hair, and share their unique hair concerns, goals and medical history.

"At Curology, we believe the scalp is an extension of our skin, and that healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp," said Heather Wallace, CEO of Curology. "As experts in skin, our own licensed dermatology providers are specially trained to treat hair loss. We wanted to find a solution that works by leveraging our core strengths of compounding multiple ingredients, using dermatology providers to diagnose via telehealth, and prescribing a personalized formula designed to target our patients' specific goals."
